When life circumstances seem chaotic, the idea of going with the flow can be a difficult one to embrace. Sometimes, the Universe delivers events or conditions that lead us to question what we are doing or why we are even on a particular path, and we may find ourselves feeling angry or frustrated—perhaps even to the point where we actively fight against our situation. On some level we know that the resistance is futile, but our ever-so-helpful ego-minds continue to strive against these external events, in some vain hope of gaining control! Sovereignty is a natural born right to freedom and self-determination. Unfortunately, what commonly happens to most of us in the first few years of our lives is a process of “education” that actually undermines the sovereignty that we are born with. This process begins with our parents and caregivers, and then becomes the domain of our teachers, ministers, law enforcement officials, government leaders, and other “experts” and “authorities” who claim to know more than we do. Because we care about our family, friends and communities, most of us work hard to fit in with society, to avoid making waves, and to just get along—for the greater good. And then, years later, many of us wake up to the fact that we don’t really know who we are or why we are here, and we become disillusioned or resentful about our lives. Clearly, sacrificing our true nature in order to live up to externally established standards doesn’t serve us in the long run. While it’s important for all of us to adhere to the laws of the land and honor the boundaries of our fellow humans, there is no reason for us to lose our true selves in the process. We owe it to ourselves to reclaim our birthright and step fully into our sovereignty. As children and young adults, most of us adopted or developed a set of unconscious beliefs, stories, filters, and even inner hiding places which helped us to navigate through and feel safe within our world. As adults, seeking balance within our Selves and in our relationships, these “obsolete programs” can actually take us away from what we want. For this episode of Soul Empowerment, David is joined by two wonderful guest hosts: Kristi Borst and Sara Jane. Some people feel lost, stuck, or unhappy because of doing such a good job of hiding/coping/blending/etc. We cannot change what we do not see; so awareness is a huge aspect of Soul Empowerment. Science in general, and medicine in particular, have made remarkable strides in the past 100 years. The number of diseases we have eliminated is staggering, and this is to be celebrated. But a side-effect of this advancement is that we have collectively become dependent on medications and drugs for even the most minor of discomforts, and many people would classify this dependence as a form of addiction. While the presence of symptoms can help with a diagnosis, many doctors and healing practitioners these days tend to rely almost totally on symptoms, and stop well short of examining root causes to try and deal with the real source of the ailment. Consequently, the treatment may alleviate the symptoms, but often does nothing to provide an actual cure. Perhaps it is time for a new pathway to healing. Given that most medicines and drugs of today are derived from treatments that can be traced back to herbs and flowers and other plants, it makes sense for us to consider the foods we eat in a new way. We all have to deal with the ups and downs, the pleasures and pains, the weeds and the flowers of life. Can you think of anyone in history who made it through life unscathed? Pain and suffering seem to be a part of the process we all go through, but they are not the ONLY part. There is also much joy and pleasure and happiness in life too—and often the pain helps us to appreciate the good things even more. But because life appears kind of chaotic, it can seem like a jungle to the casual observer—and indeed, when chaos leads to fear and pain and suffering, we may imagine that the creatures of the jungle are out to get us. What we must remember is that within every jungle, there is a garden—a place of love and compassion where we can heal our wounds and ease our pain. Compassion is a friendly presence that allows us to stay in contact with the pain we feel from time to time by simply doing life. By taking action with compassion, we can surrender into our pain—pain that we either caused or was handed to us—so that we can stay in this and learn...instead of hiding, denying or excusing. Our “garden in the jungle” is the Compassion that allows us to heal! Most people are okay with the idea of “self-love”, but the moment they hear the phrase “in love with yourself”, thoughts often to turn to visions of egotism or narcissism. When the word “accountability” is spoken, most people immediately think of shame and blame. This is not terribly surprising, given the way the term is used in most public discourse these days. But this was not the original intention of the word; indeed, its original usage was intended to provide an opportunity for someone to give a factual account of circumstances and events—without any hidden intention of finding fault or assigning blame. In this episode of Soul Empowerment, we hope to inspire you to use a different form of accountability—what we are calling self-accountability—as a tool to help you keep yourself aligned with who you really are and why you are here. So make a point to join the Soul Empowerment team and renew your relationship with what it means to apply accountability to your all aspects of your life.
