The world is in a state of flux these days, and with so many things happening, it is easy to become overwhelmed by all the changes. People everywhere struggle to maintain a sense of balance as they go about their daily lives, and it is no wonder that there are so many reports of high levels of stress and stress-related consequences. Stress on its own is relatively neutral. We experiences stress whenever we set out to do something, whether it is something we enjoy or not. However, when there are many different situations happening in our lives simultaneously, the level of stress we experience can accumulate to the point where it starts to do us harm. Even the so-called “good, motivational” stress can become unmanageable and the levels of cortisol in our bodies can rise to almost toxic levels. Anything that can reduce our levels of stress (and therefore our physical levels of cortisol) will have a beneficial effect on us, but the problem is, there are still the situations and conditions in our lives that we have to deal with. So what to do? For this episode of Life Mastery TV, I’ve invited my friend and colleague, Leah Skurdal, to share some of her wisdom and expertise as a Resilience Guide. We’re going to look at many ways of increasing our agility during these challenging times so that we can reduce the overwhelm and navigate the choppy waters with a greater sense of calm and ease. This is going to be another LMTV deep dive that is sure to leave you with one or two tools you can use to reduce your stress and increase your resilience. How can we be more explicit and compassionate in setting boundaries? • When Others Erect Boundaries Toward Us ~ When is it okay to step back? What if the person setting the boundary is a close relative? • Boundaries on Physical Touch and Intimacy ~ The last two years have conditioned most of us to expect and provide a six-foot distance from others. How do we know when others feel we are “invading their space”? Conversely, how can we lovingly express our preferences for space, touch, etc.? • What’s Beneath Our Need for Boundaries? ~ Perhaps one of the most empowering steps in setting boundaries is to ask ourselves why we need them.
