On the surface we may see or think of ourselves as being in and belonging to relationships with our partner or others. From a young age, people in the world today seem to be conditioned to engage exclusively in rational, intellectual, left-brain, logical, scientific, and sequential thinking. The concept of spirituality is widely minimized (and sometimes scorned or disparaged) to the point where we have a general disconnect from our true nature as boundless, creative beings. As a result, intuition gets a bad rap, and many of us are actively discouraged from listening to the voice within. If we look at the world we have created from this one-sided approach, we can see that the imbalance is leading us into some unpleasant territory. To reverse this trajectory and heal the damage, we need to re-connect to our spiritual essence and find our way back to the powerful intuition that we have forgotten about. In order to make sense of things in our physical reality, the ego-mind engages some pretty powerful techniques--things like logic, pattern matching and interpretation, for example--that help to make what is fit more snugly into its model of the world. And the ego-mind doesn't much like rebuilding its model of the world, so it will go through a lot of rationalizations, justifications and mental gymnastics, as it were, to fit a square peg into a round hole. In other words, the ego-mind would rather manipulate what is to fit its current model than to have to come up with a whole new model to fit the new data! In other words, the ego-mind--ostensibly, a tool to help us navigate the physical world--applies its filtering to create a story around everything that happens in our world.
