LMTV #224: The Presence Game (Harry Sherwood)
No doubt you have heard about the book “The Power of Now”, by Ekhart Tolle, which was first published in 1997 and has since become a popular influence in the field of spiritual and personal development. Tolle brought mainstream the idea of staying present in the here and now. He showed how our attachment to the past and our concerns about the future can actually inhibit our experience of joy—which, he asserts, only exists in the present moment.
But it turns out that achieving “presence” is not a trivial exercise—mainly because we all have powerful ego-minds whose purpose is to help us navigate the physical world. Unfortunately, one of the ego-mind’s favorite risk-avoidance strategies is to rely on painful memories of the past to create fear-based projections of what might happen in the future. Not only that, but the ego-mind strongly resists efforts to surrender its own ideas about identity and control, thus making it difficult to bring our attention into the present moment.
But what if “presence” could be fun? Wouldn’t that make it more attractive and easier to get to? Well, that’s what “The Presence Game” is all about. It’s like a cosmic dance party where two or more people gather to connect and explore the depths of their being. Imagine: you and your friends gathering together, leaving your minds at the door, and diving headfirst into the pool of sensations, emotions, and energies that make us truly human. Kind of like “Simon says,” but instead of obeying commands, you follow the wild and wonderful aliveness of the present moment.
Presence is a really important topic, and I’ve invited back the amazing Harry Sherwood, an expert in the field of Compassionate Inquiry, Meditation, and Mindfulness, who uses all kinds of incredible tools to help people achieve this state—and to make it much more active and alive in their lives. This is going to be a wonderful conversation in which we’ll touch on many important talking points:
* Presence as a Game
* Presence and Enlightenment
* Circling & Presence Practice
* The Game of Presence Project
Enlightenment may sound like a lofty goal, but it can be a lot more enjoyable when you have a secret weapon at your disposal! The Game of Presence is your magic key to awakening your awareness to your connection with All-That-Is. When you are ready, join the game and discover just how deep the rabbit hole of interconnectedness goes.
