Meditation is a subject I have promoted in a variety of ways in past episodes. Given the mountains of supportive scientific research that have accumulated over the years, I’m guessing it’s high time we had another in-depth discussion about it.
I’ve heard people exclaim things like, “How can sitting still with your eyes closed for extended periods of time have any possible benefit? You’re not actually doing anything!” Ironically, what these people don’t realize is that they are actually answering the question for themselves: it turns out that doing nothing is surprisingly good for you!
For one thing, meditation has been shown to reduce stress, specifically by helping to lower cortisol levels in the body. And since elevated levels of stress are well-known to cause all kinds of health problems—indeed, stress has been implicated in some of the most extreme health conditions we know about—well, any form of stress reduction has to be helpful, and if doing nothing contributes to that reduction, it seems sensible to at least give meditation a try!
For this episode of Life Mastery TV, my friend and colleague Debbra Lupien, a spiritual teacher, author and Voice of the Akashic Records, will be returning to the program to discuss this topic with me.
